Fly Fishing in Kolašin

Kolasin (965 m above sea level) is nestled at the boundary between the Sinjajevina, Moracke Mountains and Bjelasica, near Tara River, which is in that mid part of the flow, tame.

Fifteen kilometers from the city center of Kolasin, you enter the National Park Biogradska Gora. This is one of the three ancient forests of Europe, located between the rivers Tara and Lim and occupies the central part of the Bjelasica Mountain massif. It spreads on the territory of four municipalities (Kolasin, Pljevlja, Berane, Andrijevica). The glacier Biogradsko Lake is the center of Biogradska Gora National Park. It is located at 1099 meters above sea level.

Zone:

Tara River comes from rivers Opasanica and Veruša beneath the mountain Komovi, in northern Montenegro. Its length is 140.5 km, with an average decrease of 4.5 m / km and a river basin surface of 1853 km². Tara River Canyon is the deepest in Europe and second in the world after the Grand Canyon, and its water is one of the cleanest on the continent of Europe and therefore refers to as the Tear of Europe. Larger part of Tara (including the canyon) is under UNESCO protection.

Part of the river Tara between Kolasin and Mojkovac belongs to Biogradska Gora National Park and is under special protection. That part of Tara is about 5 km long and is very suitable for fly-fishing. This part of Tara River is only allowed for fly-fishing, according to catch and release regulations. This fly-fishing zone is inhabited exclusively with salmonid fish species: grayling, brown trout and hucho hucho. The largest part of the fish stock makes grayling.

The configuration of the terrain is such that rapids, deep pools and wide overflows, alternately take turns over the course of a river, which is ideal for fly-fishing. The banks along entire length are easily accessible and rest points arranged, in accordance with the environment – unique Biogadska rainforest.

In addition to the fly-fishing on Tara River, National park “Biogradska gora” offers fishing on Biogradsko Lake that is only three kilometers away. The lake is rich with lake and brown trout and Arctic char.

Season:

In early May, melting of snow from the mountains stops and the fishing season begins. The water temperature is slowly rising and water levels stabilizes, which makes the fish more active. Excellent fishing seasons begins as of June and lasts until November. [1]
