An opening ceremony of new Visitors Center in National Park Prokletije has been organized on July 30, 2014. Center has been constructed on a site near Ali Pasha Springs in Gusinje, and the land has been donated by municipality for this purpose. The funding for this project has been provided by Regional Development Agency for Bjelasica, Komovi and Prokletije, through Austrian Development Agency, and by Public company for National Parks of Montenegro, which co-financed the construction of the center, and provided funding for equpping the building.
The celebration was attended by numerous citizens of Plav and Gusinje and representatives of local governments of surrounding municipalities. The guests were greeted by His Excellency the Ambassador of the Republic of Austria in Montenegro, Dr. Johann Fröhlich, Director of Public Company for National Parks of Montenegro, Mr. Zoran Mrdak, Director of NP Prokletije, Mr. Enes Dreskovic, Director of Regional Development Agency for Bjelasica, Komovi and Prokletije, Ms. Jelena Krivcevic. Dr. Johann Fröhlich has thanked all partners in the project, and expressed his satisfaction with the fact that funding from Austrian governments has been used in such successful manner. He has sent a message to local population and local governments of area surrounding the national park that they are privileged to live in such beautiful area, that he hopes that they will have economic benefits from being so close to national parks, as is the case in Austria, but that they also have a responsibility to protect and preserve the gifts of nature that they have been given.
After the speeches, all the guests had the opportunity to explore Visitors Center, and after that to participate in a celebration arranged for the opening.
NP Prokletije is the youngest park in Montenegro, declared in 2009, and RDA, with ADA funding, ensured that the management structures and tourism offer of the park could be prepared, by assisting the park to equip its offices, build of Visitors Center, entry points, develop cultural routes, mountain biking trails, catch&release fly-fishing zones.
