MTB Club Ciker from kraljevo (Sebia), in cooperation with 8 tourism organizations, has been organizing for the past three years a great MTB “Ciker marathon” from Kraljevo to Pivsko lake in Montenegro. First year this marathon was part of IPA project “Serbia and Montenegro by bike”, and this project has been declared the best cross-border project in 2012, financed by EU.
The aim of this marathon is development of sport and tourism, and besides promoting biking as sport and healthy lifestyle activity, it also promotes tourism and cultural potentials of the two countries. Marathon lasts for 7 (seven) days and passes through mountainous areas of both countries, connecting tourism centers and cultural and historical monuments and religious objects of people and communities living in this area.
The route of the marathon in 2014 started in Kraljevo and passed through the mountains roads of Cemerno, Javor, Mučanj, Zlatar, Jadovnik, Jabuka and Durmitor, passing also through Ivanjica, Nova Varoš, Sjenica, Prijepolje, Pljevlja, Žabljak and Plužine. The route is different each year, and in the coming years it is planned to include the territories of Novi Pazar, Tutin, Rozaje, berane, Bijelo Polje, Mojkovac, Kolasin and Savnik.
The number of participants is bigger each year. In 2012 marathon there were 60 participants from Serbia and Montenegro, in 2013 there were 90 participants from Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia, while in 2014 there were 4 more participants from Germany.
It is expected that in 2015 there will be 150 participants, and aside from expected bikers from the region, there are announcements that bikers from Italy, Hungary and Germany will also take part.
